To prevent corrosion of the tank and to keep the water inside the tank hygienic and fresh all of the steel components are submerged in molten zinc. The steel is coated with a layer of zinc ensuring that it does not corrode over time and ensuring that the UV rays cannot penetrate the steel causing algae growth in the water.

Now more than ever water is the most important commodity in Africa. Without water communities, businesses and economies cannot function.

Angola is an African country on the west coast of southern Africa. It has a tropical climate with two main seasons. Summer is humid and hot and winter is cool and dry. Of all the African countries Angola normally enjoys the most rainfall but unfortunately, like all other countries in the world, it is susceptible to climate change.

Due to climate change, the country is currently experiencing the worst drought in 40 years and the water, hygiene conditions and sanitation of 1.2 million people has been affected as a direct consequence.

33.17% of the population live in rural areas and 85% of the population depend on subsistence agriculture as their main source of income.

During the Angolan war, which ended in 2002, a large part of the infrastructure was damaged and needs to be rebuilt. Since the end of the war the country has been experiencing serious problems with water supply and sanitation. The water points in areas most affected by the drought are not working.

Alternative options for water supply need to urgently be actioned.

Who is Abeco Tanks and how can they help?

More than 35 years ago in 1983 Abeco Tanks was born out of a vision to one day assist businesses and communities to continue operating in the midst of a water scarcity crisis.

The company had the foresight to know that one day a solution would be vitally important.

Today Abeco Tanks is the leading supplier of steel water tanks to 35 countries world-wide including the African continent, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Central America and the Middle East.

They are a South African company with a 269 000 square foot manufacturing plant in Johannesburg. Their staff encompasses 150 qualified welders, boiler makers, operators, quality control staff and supervisors. Some of their staff members have been with them since the company was started in 1983.

“Everything we do is focused around quality. We manufacture steel tanks that stand strong for up to 40 years,” says Mannie Ramos Jnr, COO of Abeco Tanks.

Abeco manufactures steel tanks from a raw state and buys all the parts needed from local South African companies. “There is no need for us to purchase from International companies when we can find quality parts here in South Africa. We are proud to support local businesses who in turn employ approximately 5000 South Africans,” says Ramos.

Abeco Tanks does not compromise on safety, hygiene, durability, and quality when manufacturing their water tank storage solutions.

They are required to comply with the standards of bodies (ISO9001:2015; SATAS; ASIB) that have accredited them with certifications. Their ISF membership ensures that they promise excellence in the supply of construction solutions and engineering. They are also a member of the Southern African Institute of Steel Construction.

As a company, they are innovative and always looking to improve on their product offering.

The steel used to manufacture their tanks is put through a high-yield stress test that draws quality steel. This ensures that the tanks can withstand the pressure of the water they hold.

To prevent corrosion of the tank and to keep the water inside the tank hygienic and fresh all of the steel components are galvanised. Galvanising ensures that it does not corrode over time and ensures that UV rays cannot penetrate the steel causing algae growth in the water.

Abeco’s patented manufacturing process guarantees that they are able to produce steel tanks of any shape and size. Their product offering includes rectangular, circular, square, U-shaped, L-shaped and odd-shaped tanks that can be elevated or erected on the ground. They are able to manufacture custom-designed steel tanks to suit the available space and the requirement of the client.

Their steel tanks are used to supply clean water to many industries: mining; agriculture; hospitality; medical; manufacturing and business.

Over close to 40 years Abeco Tanks has manufactured water tanks for a list of happy clients namely Shell, First National Bank, Barclays, Smithkline

Buying a steel water tank is a long-term investment and it is vitally important to select the manufacturer and supplier carefully and thoughtfully. Abeco Tanks has a reputation for building a relationship with their clients that lasts a lifetime. They are known to be reliable and have a reputation of being there for the long haul.

Abeco Tanks is the first steel tank manufacturer to call their water tanks water banks because they ensure businesses and communities access to a regular ‘savings account’ of hygienic clean water.

Their tanks act as an income protector because they ensure that businesses can keep running in the midst of an interruption in water supply.

They are also a life source to communities. Farmers are able to continue farming and producing food, families have access to clean drinkable water and children are able to study and go to school instead of walking long distances to collect water.

Water like money is essential for the world to continue operating and for life to continue on earth. As a continent we are all facing the reality of climate change. Extreme weather conditions like changes in rainfall patterns and drought are becoming more frequent. As a continent it is imperative to plan for the future and Abeco Tanks is ready and able to supply the solution.
